Bier Purity Law
With thousands of years of brewing experience and a bier purity law called the Reinheitsgebot, German brewers have earned a reputation for making some of the world’s best bier.
The Reinheitsgebot Bavarian Bier Purity Law of 1516
Bier brewed under the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516 (Reinheitsgebot) demands only four natural ingredients be used; hops, malt, water & yeast. Duke Wilhelm IV decreed this, the oldest consumer protection law, to help ensure better health for communities in Bavaria. All bier produced in Germany is made to this pledge.
Though the law has changed over the years and the Reinheitsgebot is technically no longer in effect, many German brewers still advertise their adherence to this purity standard.  Rheinheitsgebot represents the pinnacle of brewing, and consequently some of Australia’s quality producers try to replicate it.
There are no preservatives or additives in pure bier.
